Taste

Where it comes from
Poor Bens are a traditional British liquorice mixture, related to allsorts but with a wider range of shapes and a more pronounced liquorice flavour. Mixtures like this come out of the Pontefract liquorice trade, which produced several competing assortments through the twentieth century.
What it's made of
Several components, liquorice paste, modified starch gums, apple jam centres and fruit juice concentrates, combined into one mixture with beeswax and carnauba wax glazes.
