Where it comes from
Winter mixtures are a traditional British sweet shop offering, putting several boiled sweets in one bag. The flavours chosen, mint, clove, aniseed and liquorice, are all ones that were originally sold as remedies, which is why a winter mixture tastes medicinal in a way a fruit mixture does not.
What it's made of
Several batches of boiled sugar and glucose syrup, each flavoured and coloured differently, cut and mixed.
