Where it comes from
Liquorice toffee comes from the north of England, where both liquorice and toffee making were established industries, liquorice in Pontefract and toffee across Lancashire and Yorkshire. Combining the two was a natural local product and it has stayed in traditional sweet shops ever since.
What it's made of
Sugar, glucose syrup, condensed milk and vegetable oil boiled to a toffee, with black treacle and liquorice extract, coloured with vegetable carbon.
