Where it comes from
Sweet peanuts are a British boiled sweet of the early twentieth century, sold loose from jars. The shape came from the peanut being an exotic and desirable thing at the time, and the flavour is a caramelised sugar note that reads as nutty without any nut being involved.
What it's made of
Sugar and glucose syrup boiled hard, flavoured and coloured to look toasted, and stamped in a peanut shell mould.
