What it is
A hard boiled lime sweet with a chocolate centre. The shell is sharp and citrus, then it gives way to soft chocolate. Divisive, and the people who like them like them a lot.

Where it comes from
Chocolate limes are a traditional British boiled sweet from the early twentieth century, associated with old fashioned sweet shops and jars behind the counter. They belong to a small family of boiled sweets with a soft centre, alongside chocolate eclairs and sherbet lemons, which were a display of skill when they were first made because getting a centre into a boiled sweet without cracking it is difficult.
What it's made of
Sugar and glucose syrup boiled hard, flavoured with lime and coloured green, formed around a chocolate flavoured centre made with cocoa powder and vegetable fat.
