Where it comes from
After Eight was launched by Rowntree's in 1962, named to suggest a dinner party sophistication that British consumers were beginning to aspire to. The thin mint in a paper sleeve became a national fixture, and the flavour has been copied across confectionery ever since.
What it's made of
A fudge made on a soya drink base with sugar, glucose and hydrogenated palm kernel oil, flavoured with mint and topped with a dark chocolate flavour coating of palm kernel fat and cocoa powder. No milk in the recipe.
