Where it comes from
Refreshers were made by Swizzels Matlow, founded by the Matlow brothers in London in the 1920s and moved to New Mills in Derbyshire during the Second World War, where the factory still is. They belong to the same family as Love Hearts and Parma Violets, all made by compressing a sugar powder rather than boiling it.
What it's made of
Glucose syrup, sugar and vegetable oils worked into a chew with citric acid, modified starch and lysed soya protein, coloured with lutein.
