What it is
A roll of chalky fizzy tablets, each one stamped with a short message, in pastel colours and fruit flavours. The messages have been updated over the decades, which is half the fun of them.
Taste
Where it comes from
Love Hearts have been made by Swizzels Matlow since 1954, at the same Derbyshire factory as Refreshers and Parma Violets. The messages started as simple romantic lines and have been refreshed repeatedly to keep up with how people actually talk, with new ones added and old ones retired every few years.
What it's made of
Sugar compressed into tablets with malic acid and sodium bicarbonate for the fizz, flavoured and coloured, then stamped with a message die as they are pressed.
