What it is
A large soft gummy strawberry, red with a green top, with a sweet jammy flavour. Sold by weight and one of the sweets that fills a bag quickly.
Taste
Where it comes from
Giant versions of familiar sweets became popular in British pick and mix in the 1990s, when shops realised that larger sweets photographed better and made a bag look fuller. The giant strawberry is the biggest seller of that group and has stayed in the top ten ever since.
What it's made of
Sugar, glucose syrup and wheat starch with modified maize and potato starches rather than gelatine, set in a two colour mould, flavoured with strawberry, coloured with black carrot, spirulina and safflower, and glazed with carnauba wax.
