Green apple is the sour that people go back to. Sour Apples are chewy little apple shapes in green and red, rolled in a fizzy sour sugar that hits the sides of your tongue first, then gives way to a sweet apple chew that lasts a good while. The sour is sharp without being cruel.
They're Kingsway's vegan sour apples, set with wheat and potato starches instead of gelatine, and the green comes from spirulina and safflower with a little curcumin. The fizz is bicarbonate of soda reacting with lactic, malic and citric acids, which is why they foam slightly if you hold one still.
They belong in an apple bag with Apple Rings and Apple Millions, or next to Melon Slices for a sour fruit line up. They also make a good sharp counterpoint in a mostly sweet vegan bag.
