Barley Sugar

Golden, twisted and older than almost anything else in the shop. Barley Sugar is one of the original boiled sweets, a clear amber twist with a warm, rounded sweetness and a little lemon oil to lift it. Nothing sour, nothing fizzy, just clean sugar that softens slowly and lasts.

The name comes from the old recipe, which boiled the sugar in barley water, and the twist shape is how they were pulled by hand. There is no barley in this one, just sugar, glucose and lemon oil, and that simplicity is the point.

Put it with Pear Drops and Fruit Drops in a traditional tin, or with Sherbet Lemons for a lemon bag. The sweet for the desk drawer that gets opened at four o'clock.

Made without gelatine, suitable for vegetarians. Contains the colours E102 and E110, which may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.

Standard delivery is £3.99 and is free on orders over £50. It usually takes 2 to 3 working days from dispatch.

Express delivery is £5.99 for next working day delivery when you order before 2pm Monday to Friday. Orders placed after 2pm or at weekends are dispatched the next working day. The Highlands and islands can take a little longer.

Sealed sweets can be returned unopened within 14 days.
