Is there a more British piece of bubblegum than Anglo Bubbly? A small pink pear shaped lump of gum in a twist of waxed paper, soft enough to chew straight away and sweet enough to make you wonder how it was ever pocket money. The flavour goes in ten minutes, the bubble blowing goes on for an hour.
Made by Barratt, and it's been around since the 1950s with the wrapper barely changing. The pink comes from beetroot, which is a nice touch on a sweet this old, and it's still made with proper gum base rather than a chewy sweet pretending to be gum.
It belongs in a retro bag with Black Jacks and Fruit Salads, or in a party bag with Bubblegum Balls for anyone who wants to practise their bubbles.
Made without gelatine, so suitable for vegetarians. May contain traces of soya. Contains sorbitol, so excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.
