Where it comes from
White chocolate arrived commercially in the 1930s, and by the post war years British makers were moulding it into novelty shapes for the penny counter. The mouse, along with the pink and white mice sold together, became one of the standards. It is one of the few sweets in a British pick and mix that is almost never bought by the kilo, people take two or three.
What it's made of
Sugar, vegetable fat, whey powder and wheat flour in most modern versions, which makes them a chocolate flavoured confection rather than true white chocolate. True white chocolate needs cocoa butter, milk solids and sugar and nothing else.
