Where it comes from
Salt water taffy is an American seaside sweet, first sold on the boardwalk at Atlantic City in the 1880s. Taffy Town has made it in Salt Lake City, Utah since 1917. Chocolate was one of the earliest flavours added once makers moved past the original vanilla, peppermint and molasses.
What it's made of
Corn syrup, sugar, coconut oil and cocoa with sea salt, egg whites and evaporated milk, whipped until airy, with flavouring and the colours E133, E129 and E102.
