What it is
Very small irregular crystals in bright colours with sharp fruit flavours. Crunchy rather than chewy, and they come in such quantity that you eat them by tipping the box.

Where it comes from
Nerds were launched by the Willy Wonka Candy Company in 1983, taking their name from a word in Dr Seuss. The shape came from a manufacturing process that grows sugar crystals around a tiny centre, producing irregular lumps rather than uniform sweets, which was unusual enough to become the brand's identity.
What it's made of
Dextrose and sugar built up in layers around a tiny core, flavoured with fruit and acidified with malic acid, producing small crunchy irregular crystals.
