Where it comes from
Food shaped sweets remain one of the most reliable novelty categories, and the pizza slice arrived once moulding could handle enough detail to make it recognisable. The joke is the product, which is why the flavour is usually generic fruit.
What it's made of
Glucose syrup, sugar, corn starch and gelatine with citric acid and a pectin gelling agent, moulded in several colours and glazed with carnauba wax and beeswax.
