What it is
A small teardrop of milk chocolate in foil with a paper tag sticking out of the top. Sweeter and tangier than British milk chocolate, which people either love or cannot get past.

Where it comes from
Hershey's Kisses were introduced in 1907 in Pennsylvania, wrapped by hand until a machine was developed in 1921, when the paper tag was added so customers could tell a real one from an imitation. The name is thought to come from the sound or motion of the chocolate being deposited on the belt.
What it's made of
Milk chocolate deposited in drops onto a moving belt, cooled, then wrapped in foil with the paper plume inserted by machine.
