Where it comes from
Halloween was a minor event in Britain until the 1990s, when American influence turned it into the second biggest confectionery season of the year after Christmas. Sweet makers responded with seasonal shapes, and the pumpkin is the most recognisable of them.
What it's made of
A two colour gum deposit of glucose syrup, sugar and starch, set in a pumpkin mould, dried and glazed or sugar coated.
