Yorkshire Mixture is what happens when a sweet maker empties every tray into one jar. Drops, twists, fish, cushions and pips in a dozen colours, each a different hard boiled flavour: fruit, mint, aniseed and a few you only place once they are in your mouth.
The mix has been made for well over a hundred years, and it is still the sweet older customers ask for by name. Part of the pleasure is the not knowing, and the argument about who got the fish.
Serve it next to Winter Mixture for an old fashioned pairing, or with Fruit Drops and Pear Drops for a jar full of colour. For the sideboard, or anyone who misses the corner shop.
