The Tropical Jawbreaker is less a sweet and more a project. It starts with a hard outer shell of pineapple, then works down through layer after layer of colour and flavour, pineapple giving way to mango and back again, until at the very centre you hit a small piece of bubblegum as your reward.
Each layer is built up slowly in a rolling pan, which is why they take so long to make and even longer to eat. The colours are a mix of green, blue and orange, and the flavours are sunnier than most of the retro jar.
They are a natural partner for Gobstoppers, Strawberry Jawbreakers and the Blue Razz Jawbreaker, and they are the sweet to hand a teenager before a long drive so you get some peace. Suck, don't bite.
Made without gelatine, halal, and suitable for vegetarians but glazed with shellac, so not vegan.
