Treacle Toffee tastes of standing in a cold garden watching someone's dad light a rocket. It's a firm, dark toffee that starts with a snap, softens into a slow chew, and tastes of black treacle all the way through: deep, slightly bitter, almost smoky, with condensed milk and butter rounding it off underneath.
Walker's Nonsuch make it, and they don't hold back on the treacle. At 13% it's a serious amount, which is why the colour is so dark and the flavour lingers. Most treacle toffee is a caramel with a hint of treacle. This is the other way round.
It's the traditional partner to Liquorice Toffee in a dark, old fashioned bag, and it sits well against Creamy Toffee for someone who wants the range. A handful also does the job at the back door in November.
