Strawberry or liquorice? Strawberry Liquorice Slices say you don't have to pick. Each slice is a stripe of soft pink strawberry sandwiched with black liquorice, cut into a bite sized piece with a firm, satisfying chew. The strawberry comes through first, then the aniseed rolls in underneath, and somehow it works.
It's a proper old fashioned sweet, the kind you'd find at the back of a jar in a shop that's been there since your gran was young. The recipe has apple juice concentrate in the mix, which gives the fruit layer a softer, rounder sweetness than a plain flavouring would.
They're the obvious partner for Raspberry Liquorice Slices, and they sit well with Liquorice Wheels and Strawberry Wheels in a bag that's half fruit, half liquorice and all nostalgia.
