Mint is the sweet counter's palate cleanser, and Spearmint Chews are the softest way to have it. A pale green chew with a cool, clean spearmint flavour, softer and smoother in texture than a mint humbug and gentler on the mouth than a strong mint. It starts firm, warms up quickly and melts away.
The flavour is natural spearmint, not a synthetic mint, which is why it tastes green rather than icy. The recipe uses egg albumen for the soft, slightly chewy texture, which is how they manage a chew this soft with no gelatine in the recipe.
They're the finishing sweet in a traditional bag with Mint Toffee, Everton Mints and Humbugs, and they're a good one to keep in a coat pocket for after a coffee.
