You either loved them or you were wrong. Flying Saucers are the small, pastel coloured discs of edible starch paper, light as air, that go soft and tacky the second they touch your tongue and then split open to release a hit of sour, fizzy sherbet. The sherbet is the sharp kind, with tartaric and citric acid doing the work, so there's a proper tingle before the sugar catches up.
These are Frisia's sour mix, and the shells come in pink, yellow, blue and lilac from a mix of curcumin, beetroot red and a blue colour. The fizz is bicarbonate meeting acid on your tongue, the same trick as a sherbet fountain, just packed into a saucer.
They're a party bag essential and a retro mix cornerstone. Bubblegum UFOs are the flavoured cousin, and Candy Necklaces and Sherbet Lemons round out a proper old school bag.
Made without gelatine, so suitable for vegetarians.
