Sour Apple Cubes get you twice. The sour sugar on the outside hits first, then the green shell cracks to a hard, glassy centre and the sweetness catches up. Same trick as a Kola Brick, done in green with a tart apple flavour that leans more Granny Smith than toffee apple.
They are made by Stockley's, who have been boiling sweets since the 1930s, and the cube shape is deliberate: the corners give the sour sugar somewhere to cling.
They belong in any sour bag with Sour Apples and Apple Millions, and they pair with Sour Blue Raspberry Cubes for a two colour sour cube mix. A good one for the tail end of a movie night.
Made without gelatine, suitable for vegetarians. Contains the colour E102, which may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.
Warning: E102 may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.
