Rhubarb and custard was always a boiled sweet, until someone sensible made it soft. Rhubarb and Custards (Soft) are little pink and yellow tubes with a soft, springy chew, and the flavour is exactly the one from the jar: sharp, tangy rhubarb on one side, sweet custard flavour on the other, meeting somewhere in the middle. Much easier on the teeth.
They're made by Vidal, the Spanish jelly makers, and the colours come from plants, safflower, lemon, sweet potato, blackcurrant and radish among them, rather than anything synthetic. There's no milk in the recipe, so the custard is a flavour rather than a dairy thing.
They sit well next to Rhubarb and Custards (Boiled) for a soft and hard pairing, with Rhubarb and Custard Pips for the full set, or with Milk Bottles in a retro bag.
Contains gelatine, so not suitable for vegetarians. Contains wheat (gluten).
