Liquorice Cream Rock is the sweet for people who find plain liquorice a bit much. It's a short, soft stick of black liquorice with a stripe of pale fondant running through it, so every bite is treacly aniseed liquorice cut with a smooth, sweet softness. The texture is chewy rather than firm, and the fondant gives way first so you get sweetness before the liquorice lands.
Kingsway make it, and the recipe is a proper old fashioned one: cane sugar molasses, wheat flour and liquorice extract for the black part, and a sugar fondant for the stripe. There's no cream or milk in the recipe, despite the name.
It pairs best with its own kind. Liquorice Comfits, Liquorice Toffee and Liquorice Gums round out a liquorice bag, or drop a few into a traditional mix for the aniseed fans.
Contains pork gelatine, so not suitable for vegetarians. Contains wheat (gluten).
