Fruit caramels are usually the sweet you chew slowly on a long walk. Freeze Dried Fruit Flavour Caramels are something else entirely: brittle, honeycombed nuggets that crack in half and melt away in a second, with the fruit flavour standing out far more than it does in the soft version.

Freeze drying is gentle and slow. The caramels are frozen and then held under vacuum for hours while the water inside them turns to vapour and escapes, leaving a pocket everywhere the water used to be. The result is that puffed, crumbly texture, and because the sugar is untouched, nothing is lost but the weight.

They sit well in a mixed freeze dried bag with Fruit Bombs, Cherry Crunch Sticks and Strawberry Crunch Sticks, and they're a good one to hand to a freeze dried sceptic first.

Contains gelatine, so not suitable for vegetarians.

Express delivery is £5.99 for next working day delivery when you order before 2pm Monday to Friday. Orders placed after 2pm or at weekends are dispatched the next working day. The Highlands and islands can take a little longer.

Sealed sweets can be returned unopened within 14 days.
