Black and white stripes, peppermint on the outside, soft toffee in the middle. Everton Mints are the humbug's posher cousin: a hard, cool peppermint shell that you suck through to a chewy centre made with condensed milk and treacle, so the finish is buttery and dark rather than just minty.
They take their name from the same place as the football club, whose toffee lady still throws them into the crowd before kick off. That is a lot of history for a sweet the size of a thumbnail.
They belong with Humbugs and Black Bullets in a mint bag, or with Mint Toffee for the toffee angle. A sweet for the glovebox, the top pocket and the bowl by the till.
Made without gelatine, suitable for vegetarians. Contains milk and soya.
