If you bite Edinburgh Rock expecting seaside rock, you're in for a surprise. It's soft. The sticks are chalky and crumbly, and they dissolve on your tongue into a gentle sugary flavour rather than shattering into shards. Each pastel colour is its own flavour, and the ginger one is the sleeper hit that adults end up hunting for.
Legend has it the recipe came from a batch of rock left forgotten in a cupboard until it went soft, and Scotland has been eating it ever since. These are made by Buchanan's.
It belongs with Scottish Tablet for a proper Scottish pairing, or in a traditional mix with Dolly Mixtures and Pear Drops for the grandparents.
Made without gelatine, so suitable for vegetarians. Contains the colours E102, E122, E124 and E129, which may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.
Warning: E102, E122, E124, E129 may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.
