Dolly Mixtures are small fondant cubes and cylinders in pink, yellow, orange and white alongside little soft jellies, and each one is a gentle, sugary mouthful rather than a big flavour hit. That's the charm.
These are the Barratt ones, which is the version most of us grew up on. The colours come from plant sources like beetroot, paprika, spirulina and safflower, which is why they're soft pastels rather than neon, and the brown layer in the striped cubes is a touch of cocoa.
Drop them in with Jelly Babies, Milk Bottles and Candy Necklaces for a proper old school bag, or use them to decorate a birthday cake. They're also a safe bet for grandparents who claim they don't want sweets.
