Where it comes from
Single colour M&M's became a business in their own right once Mars began selling them by the colour for weddings, corporate events and sports teams. Black and silver are among the most requested, which is why they are produced despite being visually unusual for a sweet.
What it's made of
A milk chocolate centre panned with sugar syrup and coloured with a blend including brilliant blue, allura red and tartrazine to reach black, then polished.
