Where it comes from
Cookies and cream as a flavour began as an American ice cream in the late 1970s, built on the Oreo, which itself launched in 1912. It spread into every confectionery category over the following decades and is now one of the most reliable flavours in the world, because the visual contrast sells it before anyone tastes it.
What it's made of
A fudge made on a soya drink base with vanilla and clotted cream flavourings and chocolate sandwich biscuit pieces, made with wheat flour and cocoa, folded through before setting.
