The salt is what makes it. Without it Salted Caramel Toffee would just be a very good chewy caramel toffee, rich with condensed milk and butter, the kind that pulls when you bite it and then melts. With it, every chew lands somewhere between sweet and savoury, and the caramel tastes deeper than it has any right to.
The recipe uses 21% sweetened condensed milk and real butter, with a touch of molasses for colour and depth, and the salt is genuine sea salt rather than a pinch of table salt. Each toffee is twist wrapped.
They sit at the posh end of a toffee bag. Pair them with Salted Caramel Fudge for the full salted caramel thing, or with Creamy Toffee and Milk Chocolate Eclairs for a wrapped toffee selection that makes a decent gift.
