Every sweet shop had a tub of these by the till. Red Candy Belts are thin, flat strips of strawberry chew, ridged along their length and dusted in a fine sour sugar. They fold in half and stack, and the strawberry is the sweet, jammy kind with a sour edge from the coating.
They're a flour based chew rather than a gummy, closer to a liquorice lace than a jelly, and the red comes from carmine (E120). Palm fat keeps them bendy rather than brittle.
A retro mix isn't finished without them. Pair them with Mini Rainbow Belts for a belt bag in every colour, or add Fizzy Tongues and Fizzy Snakes for a sour bag with plenty to chew on. Good for kids, because a few belts go a long way.
Made without gelatine, but coloured with carmine (E120), so not suitable for vegetarians. Contains wheat (gluten). May contain traces of soya and mustard.
