Three ingredients. Sugar, peppermint oil and a little acacia gum to hold it together, which is the whole recipe for a Mint Imperial and has been for well over a century. The result is a smooth white ball with a cool, clean peppermint flavour and a satisfying crunch once you have sucked it thin enough to bite.
They are made by building sugar up in layers in a slow turning pan, the same way they were made in Victorian sweet shops, which is why they are so dense and why they take a while to get through. No colour, no fat, no nonsense.
They are the polite mint. Put them with Humbugs and Mintoes for a mint mix, or with Everton Mints for a black and white bowl, and keep a handful in the car for after the garlic bread.
Made without gelatine, suitable for vegetarians. May contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts.
Sugar, peppermint oil, stabiliser: acacia gum.
