There's a satisfying grit to Dew Drops. Small, firm fruit jellies rolled in coarse sugar, so you get a crunch first and then a dense, slow chew with a clean fruit flavour, in red, orange, yellow, green and black. They're the jelly for people who think most jellies are too soft.
They're made by Taveners, one of the old Liverpool sweet names, and they've been in traditional sweet shop jars for as long as anyone can remember. The recipe is a simple one: sugar, glucose, starch and gelatine, with the colours from carmine, chlorophyllins, vegetable carbon and curcumin.
They sit in a traditional bag with Jelly Babies and Wine Gums, or with Fruit Jellies if you want to compare a sugared jelly with a plain one. One for a grandparent's tin.
Contains beef gelatine, so not suitable for vegetarians.
