Chewing Nuts are one of the great misnamed sweets. There isn't a nut in the recipe. What you get is a small, soft toffee made with condensed milk and butter, coated all over in milk chocolate, and the name comes from the shape, which looks a bit like a hazelnut if you squint.
The chocolate is real milk chocolate, and it goes first. Then the toffee takes over: soft, buttery and slow, the kind of chew that keeps you quiet for a minute. They have been in sweet shop jars for generations and the recipe has never needed fixing.
They belong with Milk Chocolate Covered Toffee and Toffee Eclairs in a chocolate and toffee bag, or with Chocolate Frogs for a proper sweet shop chocolate mix.
Made by Kingsway without gelatine. Contains milk and soya. May contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts. Small, firm sweets, so not suitable for children under 36 months.
