Blackcurrant separates a good pencil from an average one, and the Blackcurrant Pencil is a good one. A long, deep purple candy pencil with a soft, slightly stretchy chew and a smooth sweet fondant through the centre. The blackcurrant is rich and rounded rather than sharp.
The casing gets a little apple juice concentrate, which softens the chew, and the filling makes up nearly a third of each pencil, so there's a proper ratio of soft centre to chewy outside.
They belong in a purple mix with Blackcurrant Liquorice, or in a pencil case with Strawberry Pencils and Cherry Pencils.
Made without gelatine, so suitable for vegetarians. Contains wheat (gluten). May contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts. Contains the colour E129, which may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children. Contains sorbitol, so excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.
