American Hard Gums are neither American nor especially hard, but the name stuck a long time ago and nobody's arguing. They're a firm, dense fruit gum rolled in fine sugar, with a slightly tangy fruit flavour that comes out as the sugar melts off. The chew is long and slow.
Taveners make them, set on maize and potato starch rather than gelatine, which is why they're a proper gum rather than a jelly. The colours are all plant based, anthocyanins, paprika, curcumin, safflower and spirulina, so nothing artificial in the reds, oranges or greens.
Put them with Wine Gums, Football Gums and Midget Gems for a traditional gum bag, or use them as the one firm sweet in a bag of soft ones.
Made without gelatine, so suitable for vegetarians. Not suitable for children under 36 months, as children can choke on small, hard objects.
