What it is
A very sour hard ball that changes colour and flavour as you get through the layers. Genuinely uncomfortable for the first twenty seconds, which is the entire selling point.

Where it comes from
Toxic Waste launched in America in the 1990s, built around the idea that a sweet could be a dare. The packaging mimics a hazardous waste drum and the products carry warnings about eating more than one at a time, which have never discouraged a single child. It became the defining brand of the extreme sour category.
What it's made of
Sugar and glucose syrup panned in layers with a heavy loading of citric and malic acid, each layer a different colour, then glazed with beeswax.
