Where it comes from
Foam whips are a British sweet shop product of the mid twentieth century, made with the same aerated gelatine base as foam bananas but extruded as a rope rather than moulded. They were sold as a penny sweet you could eat slowly, and they still sell largely on texture.
What it's made of
Glucose and fructose syrup whipped with pork gelatine and air, flavoured and coloured, then extruded through a shaped nozzle and twisted as it sets.
