Small gummy fangs in red and white, fruit flavoured, sold loose and heavily at Halloween.
Taste
Where it comes from
Novelty teeth descend from wax lips sold at American penny counters a century ago, designed to be worn before being eaten. The gummy version arrived once moulding could hold the detail, and Halloween's growth in Britain from the 1990s turned it into a seasonal staple.
What it's made of
Glucose syrup, sugar and beef and pork gelatine with a pectin gelling agent, fruit and vegetable concentrates from radish, blackcurrant, carrot, apple, pumpkin and tomato, coloured with carmine.
