What it is
A soft gummy shaped like a shark, usually blue on top and white underneath, with a fruit flavour that is closer to blue raspberry than anything found in the sea. A children's favourite and a party bag staple.

Where it comes from
The two colour shark is a product of the 1980s and 1990s boom in novelty gummies, arriving after Jaws had made the shark the most recognisable animal shape a sweet maker could use. The blue and white colouring mimics the counter shading real sharks have, pale underneath and dark on top.
What it's made of
Glucose syrup, sugar and gelatine deposited in two colours into a shark mould, dried for several days, then glazed with carnauba wax so they keep their shine and do not stick.
