Where it comes from
Mentos was created in the Netherlands in the 1930s by the Van Melle brothers, reportedly after one of them saw a similar sweet on a train journey to Poland. It became a global brand and the fruit version is now sold in over a hundred countries. It is best known outside confectionery for what happens when you drop one in a bottle of diet cola.
What it's made of
Sugar, glucose syrup and coconut oil chewed base with fruit juices from concentrate, formed into discs then panned with a thin sugar shell and polished with carnauba wax.
