Where it comes from
The fried egg is one of the classic novelty gummy shapes, made in Europe since at least the 1970s. It belongs to a family of food shaped sweets, along with chips, burgers and pizzas, which children find funny for reasons that have never changed.
What it's made of
A white gum deposited first, then a yellow yolk dropped into the centre, set with gelatine and glazed with carnauba wax and beeswax.
