The flavour is sweet mixed fruit, the same slushie flavours the Icee brand is known for.
It's the genuine American version, and it's the same science as the popping candy you remember, just louder. It went viral on video for obvious reasons.
Sprinkle it over ice cream, pair it with Flying Saucers and Fizzy Snakes for a fizzy retro bag, or with Nerds Rainbow for a bag that crackles and crunches at the same time.
